HCD Training and Coaching

Human-centred design training for enterprise teams, in Melbourne and across Australia.

Anyone can teach the theory of human-centred design. I teach what I have practised: a decade building and leading enterprise design functions, applied to your real problems, with cohorts drawn from across your business. The two days in the room are just the start.

The 2-Day HCD Bootcamp

I start with your problems, not case studies. Before the bootcamp I work with you to choose the real, complex problems your teams are wrestling with right now, and those become the course material. Over two days your people learn the HCD toolkit by using it: framing the problem, understanding the customer, testing what they think they know, and turning insight into something they can act on.

The bootcamp runs face to face, in one room, with participants stepped away from their day jobs, because immersion is part of the design. The ideal cohort is 14 to 16, deliberately mixed across the business, any level, any function. This is about learning to solve complex problems, and diversity of thought is how they get solved. I can run larger groups when needed.

By the end of the two days they have not just learned the method. They have started the work.

The three-month program

The bootcamp opens a three-month program. The cohort comes back together for three structured online coaching sessions, sharing how they are applying the method in their day-to-day work and getting direct feedback on what they are running.

Certification comes at the end of the three months, not the end of the two days, once participants have shown the method working in their everyday roles.

What your team keeps

Every participant leaves with the RuminX HCD toolkit and the full slide set, theirs to reuse. The problems they worked on are real, so the outputs are a tested starting point your teams can take forward where they prove desirable, feasible and viable. A cohort that has practised together for three months does not dissolve when the program ends.

Bespoke sessions

When a team needs depth in one tool rather than the whole toolkit, I design and run single-topic deep dives: Service Design 101, Journey Mapping 101, or a session built around whatever your teams need next, like the HCD 101 sessions I have run for teams at Coles. These sessions run virtually or in person, and they are often how teams build on the bootcamp afterwards.

Training impact

Across cohorts, participant NPS averages +87 and instructor satisfaction averages 94%.

Sammi brings a highly professional and flexible approach, tailoring content to meet the specific needs of our teams. Participants consistently praised her engaging facilitation style and her ability to connect training concepts to real-world challenges. The sessions were practical, insightful, and clearly designed to drive meaningful business outcomes and enhance customer experience.
